Multiple congratulations are in order for my long-time private percussion student, Campbell Stewart!!!

This past weekend, Campbell was selected as the 1st Chair / Principal Percussionist with the Arizona All-State Orchestra.  This is Cambell's third consecutive year auditioning into the all-state ensemble.

In the past two months, Campbell has also been the winner of three separate concerto competitions, receiving gold medals from the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Tucson, and the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra.  Campbell has now been a medalist in eight separate concerto competitions, alongside his placement as a finalist in the prestigious Brevard Music Center's 2022 Concerto Competition.

Campbell is in his third year with the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra and is currently serving as one of the ensemble's principal percussionists.  Last summer, Campbell attended the Brevard Music Festival and had the opportunity to study with renowned percussionists and timpanists from the Houston, Detroit, and Jacksonville Symphonies.  Campbell was also accepted into the 2021 Juilliard Percussion Seminar and he was a participant of the Hilton Head Jazz Camp in South Carolina.

This upcoming summer, Campbell will perform in Carnegie Hall and tour to the Dominican Republic as one of the selected percussionists with the National Youth Orchestra 2.

Campbell is currently an 11th grader at Pusch Ridge High School and he first began studying with me as a third grader. During my multiple years in Georgia, Campbell continued with virtual lessons over zoom and continued to win awards and progress exponentially.  To watch his growth over the past nine years has been an absolute joy.  It is always a privilege to work with students as dedicated and passionate as Campbell.

Campbell Stewart will perform Mvt. IV of Ney Rosauro's Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra on Sunday, March 19th at 3:30 PM in Crowder Hall at the University of Arizona at the Civic Orchestra's FREE concert!

Campbell will also be performing Hovhanness' Fantasy on Japanese Woodprints for xylophone and orchestra at the Tucson Philharmonia's Spring Gala on April 23 and he has been selected to solo with the Southern Arizona Symphony next season.
